On Board on Pandaw
Once on board you will be looked after by the Purser who
will do his or her best to make sure that you are as comfortable as possible.
Both the hotel staff and the ship’s crew are here to ensure that you are as well
looked after as is possible within the confines of an expedition vessel making
pioneering journeys.
Rooms
All twin rooms are
feature individual air conditioning units, shower room, with hold and cold
water, wc. Interior walls are finished with hardwood tongue and groove paneling,
beds are traditional teak ships cots with brass
marine fittings. Local hand-woven fabrics are used for curtains, bed covers and
cushions. Cabins windows are also fitted with insect netting so they may be kept
open at night in preference to air conditioning. Please note all staterooms are
NON smoking, and there are no mini bars or TV’s!
Sun Decks
Broad promenade decks run round the outside of the
accommodation. Here rattan chairs and marble top tables sit outside each cabin.
The promenade deck is designed as an extension of the cabin space: a place to
sit at ease and reflect on the passing riverscape. Aft of the bridge there is a
broad Sun Deck with steamer chairs and sun loungers. At night the sun deck may
be transformed into a theatre and performances of traditional Burmese
marionettes or classical dancing are held. Smoking is only permitted on the
promenade and sun deck.
Saloon Bar
The old first class 'saloon' on the upper deck over the bow
has been preserved as an Observation Lounge with cocktail bar. It is air
conditioned and furnished with rattan sofas, armchairs and objects d'art. There
are hi-fi and video facilities. During the day the windows can be opened to
allow the river breezes to flow in.
Dining
The Dining Room is conceived as an extension of the open
deck space with fold back doors to allow the breeze to pass through. These may
be closed at night, with the air conditioning switched on, preventing the entry
of insects. All meals are included. Breakfast and lunch are self serve buffets.
Dinner is a sit down affair with a set menu and waiter service. Meals are a
mixture of Asian and European with an emphasis on local fish, tropical fruits
and exotic vegetables. Coffee and a selection of teas are available all day with
our compliments. We also have a lively wine cellar and a famous collection of
after dinner liquors
Going ashore
What is particularly enjoyable about a trip on the Pandaw
are the shore excursions we arrange and escort. We always endeavour to stop at
small villages that are well off the beaten tourist track. The welcome is always
warm and friendly. We are able to see local handicrafts, such as weaving or pot
making, at first hand. We may also visit the market, a primary school or
monastery. On occasions we will take a walk in the surrounding countryside and
see local farming or forestry practices. At all times we try to offer a real
insight into the local way of life.
